These taps are typical Irwin quality - very good. Don't expect the quality taps as you would find with Regal, Brubaker, Titex and the like. However, for the average home shop they will do a great job. I have used Irwin taps for many years for routine tapping jobs and they cut well, stay sharp for a fair amount of time, do not snap if the hole is drilled properly and good tapping technique is used.

These taps are taper taps with a very generous taper, which is how they center or align better. If you do not have a deep or through hole to tap they may disappoint. Plug taps would be better for the average hole, or you can start with these taps and buy bottoming taps.

These are very good taps at a very reasonable price. I have Irwin taps that are over 20 years old and still cut very nicely so I have no reservation in recommending them. However, if you need a precision thread then look for taps ground to tighter tolerances.
