Full Range, Class A/B Topology
A class A/B amplifier uses two groups of transistors and it is generally considered to be the best compromise of the two classes - A and B - put together. A pure class A amplifier typically has an enormous amount of current flowing through its output transistors with no audio signal. A pure class B amplifier has no current flowing through its outputs with no audio signal. A class A/B amplifier is much more efficient than a class A, but without the possible distortion of a class B.

4/3/2 Channel
This versatile feature comes in handy for a few different installation applications. The “4 channel means that you are able to simply use the NX2000.4 as a four channel amplifier by hooking up four speakers - fronts and rears - to it. The “3 channel allows you to hook up two speakers to channels 1 and 2 and use the remaining 3 and 4 channels for one subwoofer in bridged mode. Channels 1 and 2 can be bridged to accommodate one speaker or one subwoofer. Channels 3 and 4 can be used in the exact same application.
Variable Bass Boost
With the NX2000.4 amplifier, you get variable bass boost. This feature gives you control of exactly how much bass you want to pump out to your subwoofers, whereas with regular bass boost you would either have extra bass, or not.
Low And High Level Inputs
There are two different ways that you can get a signal into IPM series amplifiers: high and low level input. Low level input is measured in voltages and comes in the form of RCA outputs from the back of your receiver, going to the RCA inputs on your amplifier. High level input is measure in wattages, and comes in the form of one positive and one negative wire from the back of your receiver, going to the input terminal of your amplifier in the same wire form. Low-level (RCA) input wiring is preferred for best audio performance. Always use a high-quality RCA cable for the best audio performance. NOTE: Do not connect both the high and low level inputs from your receiver to your amplifier at the same time.
Variable Crossover
Speakers reproduce sound based on high, low, or mid-range frequencies. This process is called the crossover effect, and it occurs because many audio systems cannot cover the entire spectrum sufficiently to minimize sound distortion and maintain an appropriate frequency ratio. With the NX2000.4 amplifier, a variable crossover is offered so that you have the ability to set the frequency at which the crossover occurs. Usually I do not make reviews, but in this case I think BOSS Audio deserves it.After a good search on power amps available at Amazon.com, I decided to buy this one, the BOSS Onyx 2000.4. To help me in my decision and search I also looked for down-loadable info (manuals, tech spec) from [...] and exchanged some e-mails with them.
Now the goods and the bads.
The goods:
1. Amp came in a nice box advertising precisely the contents of it.
2. Amp and accessories were very well packed
3. The design of the unit is one of the tops I've seen.
4. BOSS Audio support BEFORE I bought the unit was good.
5. Sound quality is OK
The bads:
1. Although the design is nice, left and right hand sides of the unid are plastic made. There are located the screws holes to attach the unit to any surface. I am not sure if they are tough enough to hang the (~ 8 pounds) unit in vertical position.
The following I addressed directly to Boss Audio. Some weeks have passed. Three to four e-mails sent and nobody provided clarifications to my doubts and even said if there is anything wrong with my unit. Boss' customer support AFTER you bought is poor... Specially when you are having possible problems with their products.
2. The unit and users manual that came with it show different I/Os layout, crossover ranges and fuses rate from the manual available in the [...]. Web site is not up to date or my unit is an old version. The fact is I based my buying decision on the info available at their web site.
3. When all the adjustment knobs (cross overs, gain controls, etc) are at full counter-clockwise position (which means zero or minimum) they point to the maximum value printed in the face of the unit.
4. Users manual does not say anything about the sensitivity selection switch (100mV-2V and 3V-8V positions). How to use them along with input gain control? Should I try adjustments by experiments?
5. When the player (head unit) is turned ON, amp protection red LED comes ON, immediately after goes OFF, and power green LED turns ON. Manual does not say anything if this is normal or not.
I will keep my three stars rate till Boss solves the issues above. If so, I'll provide an update.
