Dorman 264-715 Oil Pan Review

I ended up contacting Dorman as to why these only fit 2004-2005 BEW engines (I cannot comment on fitting the 2.0 gas engines). Most other manufacturers say their all aluminum pans fit 1999-2005 both ALH and BEW engines. Dorman could not say why these wont, but since I've had a lot of bad luck with all aluminum aftermarket pans I decided to try one to see why. It turns out on ALH engines with the mechanical injection pump the A/C compressor sits lower and closer to the pan. The pan fits the block fine, but I had to unbolt the A/C compressor and grind back an unused mounting ear and a little of the front cover plate. I also removed a small amount of the steel lip on the pan at one of the bolts, this did not affect the pans integrity. The only downside I see it that you have to loosen the A/C compressor if you want to remove the pan again as it blocks access to two of the pan bolts now.
