The standard mirrors on my 2001 Silverado 2500HD (purchased used) were totally inadequate for towing the 31 foot travel trailer, so I set out to find something affordable to replace them. I first stopped at the local Chevy/GMC dealer who had only one towing mirror available for this truck, at a cost of over $600 for two mirrors and installation. The mirror was too small and came in manual only.

I first purchased some snap-on extensions from amazon, and while they looked good on the truck they were too small and hard to see the trailer with. I then searched and found these mirrors, which were supposed to fit my truck, but had no reviews. I like to get some opinions before I buy anything sight unseen, but the best I could do was some good reviews on a similar product from the same company. I bought the mirrors based on the reviews of the similar model. I was not disappointed.

The estimated shipping date was almost two weeks away, but the mirrors arrived in about three days. (There was one glitch: I received two large boxes, one marked left, one right. The boxes seemed to be much too large for a single mirror, and indeed, each box contained TWO mirrors. I went back to amazon and found nothing indicating that I had purchased two sets of mirrors, so I just set one aside. In a couple of days, without any prior notification, UPS showed up with a pickup order from the supplier. It wasn't hard to determine what they wanted shipped back. Someone had seen "left" and "right" on the box and assumed, as I did, that each contained one, not two mirrors. I just wish they had notified me they had ordered the pickup.)

I had never installed mirrors before and was hesitant to tear into something that I had no knowledge of, but it turned out to be the simplest thing imaginable. I snapped off the small cover plate on the inside of the door, unplugged the wire for the electric adjustment, and took off three nuts. The mirror came off, the new one went on, I snapped the plastic cover on, and I was finished with both in less than 20 minutes. They look good, they are solid, with no vibration on the road, and I can pull them out for a huge view of the road behind me. The only better view would be West Coast mirrors, but I will not drill holes in my truck's door to mount them. The electric adjustment works just like the original equipment mirrors. I cannot speak to the heater part, since the heated mirrors operate off the rear window defogger switch, and my truck is not equipped with the defogger, thus has no switch.

I highly recommend these mirrors for anyone with a truck made in the years designated, who has to tow a big trailer. They are infinitely superior to the snap-on or strap-on type, and give a much better view of the road than the manually adjustable option offered by GM for over $200.00 each. They fold up for tight garages or car washes, and the wide angle convex mirror gives a great view alongside the truck.
