I put this on a 1980 FXWG 98ci 10-1 compression with a spike starter i have had no problems from it, the relay you will need is part #31504-91a,blue streak 75156 which is made in usa.it is important to use one of these two as they have a diode in them other relays do not. make sure to also ground the regulator as the battery tray is rubber mounted these were issues that are not explained in directions i also change the knob the threads are 1/4-20
